Dana’s Testimonial and Hitch Fit Gym Review:
“My name is Dana Murray and I am currently 46 years old. I can honestly say that I am now in the best shape of my life-thanks to Hitch Fit! I am so excited to share my story as I believe my story will bring hope to others who are unhappy with the way they look and feel and feel as if they are stuck in rut.
So here it goes…As a child, I lived an active lifestyle while participating and competing in the sport of gymnastics. During my high school years, I starting coaching gymnastics and got involved in cheerleading. I always felt as if my weight was holding me back-not that I was fat or overweight-but I was always the “biggest” girl on my gymnastics team and on my cheerleading squad(s). I did not have the body for those sports and I was always told that I needed to watch my weight. The phrase of “watch your weight” was a phrase that I heard often while growing up. After high school, I pursued cheerleading at the collegiate level and just missed making the squad. I was pulled into a conference room immediately following my try-out by the college coaching staff and judges and was told that I had the skills but I didn’t meet their weight requirement (and I was a size 5 at that time). I was devastated and it was then that I really began to have issues with my weight as my activity level dramatically decreased.
I enjoyed my college years, but my nutrition was terrible. I did not exercise on a regular basis and I was introduced to beer (not a good combination). I gained a great deal of weight during those years, but lost the weight after college graduation. I began to focus on cardio-but did not feel comfortable in the weight room surrounded by others-therefore weight lifting was not a part of my workout regimen. I had no idea what I was doing in terms of my nutrition-I just ate less and exercised more. I became more of a skinny fat version of myself but never liked the way that I looked.
Shortly after college graduation, I met my husband and we married in 1999. We were blessed with two baby boys who became the center of my world. Our first son was born in 2000 (I was 29) and our second son was born in 2004 (I was 32). I lost the weight that I gained during my first pregnancy but did not lose the weight that I gained from my second pregnancy. Once I became a mom, I no longer made myself a priority-in fact I wasn’t even on my own priority list. I was not intentional with anything in my life, I existed but I was struggling to get through each day (not a fun way to live).
Soon after the birth of our second son, we learned that he had two very serious Congenital Heart Defects. This news came as a complete shock to us. The fact that his heart was not fully developed was not revealed during any of my sonograms. At 7 days old, our son endured his first open heart surgery, followed by another at the age of 7 years old and another at the age of 11. I spent the next several years focused on our youngest son’s medical needs, our oldest son’s activities, and completely let myself go.
As our youngest son’s health stabilized, I went back to work and had even less time to take care of myself. Looking back-I’m not sure how I was able to function as well as I did, I managed to take care of my kids, made it to work each day, but I fell into a pattern of existence and I believe I may have experienced some depression. I fell into a rut. I was at least 40 pounds overweight, I hated the way that I looked and I felt much worse on the inside. As a result, my marriage began to deteriorate and it was at that point that I knew I needed to make some changes in my life.
My fitness journey as a mature adult really began in 2014. I started making better decisions with my nutrition and incorporated fitness back into my life. My husband remained active over the years and was always one who was thought of as “being in good shape.” We started working out together and fitness became an activity that we enjoyed doing together. I lost 25 pounds on my own-but did not do it the right way-therefore I did not have any muscle tone and still did not look fit. My workouts in the gym became boring and I realized I was only going through the motions. I made no progress in 2017 and was determined to become an even better version of myself-but I needed help.
In January of 2018, I began searching for a fitness challenge online. While searching for fitness programs, I came across the Hitch Fit Website and read the transformation stories from Rob and Anissa Elsey (friends and former neighbors of ours) and I was inspired by their transformations. At that point, I knew Hitch Fit was the program for me. I called and left a voicemail message. When my call was returned (within the same day), I connected with a Hitch Fit trainer and we set an appointment. During that first meeting with my Hitch Fit Trainer, I told her I was ready and wanted to know when I could get started. I will never forget that first workout…I thought I was in good shape. Afterwards, I was wondering what I had gotten myself into-but I knew it was what I was looking for and knew it was what I needed (something and someone to challenge me physically).
The Hitch Fit program, gym atmosphere, and all of the Hitch Fit Trainers were so encouraging and motivating. My trainer knew when to push me and pushed me during all of my workouts…doing so in a supportive way. She is a little firecracker-one who is full of positive energy and she spreads that positive energy over onto others. Completing my transformation program is something that I will never forget. It was an amazing experience! The workouts were intense-but it was exactly what I needed (and wanted) to reach the next level in my fitness journey. The nutritional program was easy to follow and I gained nutritional knowledge that I will utilize for the rest of my life. I would like to thank my Husband for supporting me and encouraging me throughout my transformation. He actually cooked the majority of my meals and started following the program with me. As he watched me transform…he became more motivated and set new fitness goals for himself.
I am amazed with my transformation-my outlook on life has changed (I am more intentional with my time and definitely make myself a priority). Our youngest son is now 14, he still has more surgeries to face as he grows-but I have learned to enjoy the normal times instead of focusing on the negative times-like I did in the past. I can actually look in the mirror and feel good about the way that I look (I have NEVER been able to say this)! I would definitely recommend this program to anyone-especially to those people who feel as if they are stuck in a rut and want to climb out. I truly believe in the message that says, “There are those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.” Be the person that makes things happen-I did! ”
