Joy’s Story and Hitch Fit Gym Review:
I’m not really sure where to begin. I have battled my weight and overeating my entire life. At my heaviest recorded weight, I was 320 pounds. I was on the lose and gain rollercoaster.
Over the years, the doctors added medication for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and a myriad of other ailments caused by my eating habits and sedentary lifestyle.
Every time a new drug was added, I did not change anything because, hey, you just added a drug to counteract my bad habits.
Although I had lost a significant amount of weight, in March of 2023 my cardiologist and I had a “Come to Jesus” meeting and if I did not make immediate changes, I was going to have to start taking shots for my diabetes and I was taking away years from my life. I asked the cardiologist to give me three months to turn my numbers around before making any medication changes and she agreed.
The next day I called Hitch Fit and found Steven Stollenwerk.
To say he helped save my lie is an understatement. When you are morbidly obese, not only do you carry all the extra weight, you carry shame, guilt, and self-loathing. The first question I texted him was “Do you work with obese people?” He was so nice and answered all my questions. We met and he developed a plan that encompassed weight training, cardio, and nutrition.
We started meeting twice a week and it wasn’t long before we upped it to three times a week. Not only did Steven meet me at the level I could do (which was not much), he encouraged me, held me
accountable, and became my confidant, cheerleader, friend, and so much more.
As the days passed, I could see improvement and the weight and inches started dropping off.
At the three-month mark, I went back to the cardiologist who was blown away by the changes.
Healthy Lifestyle Changes Lead to Reduced Medication
In addition to the weight loss, all my bloodwork came back in the normal range and I was no longer considered diabetic. My blood pressure medicine was decreased; I was removed from one diabetes medication and a second was cut in half.
Over the next few months, my medications had to be decreased numerous times and at my six-month checkup, my bloodwork was just as good as it was three months previously, so more medications were
removed.
With the exception of two medications that I will always have to take, I am off everything else. I think when I added it up, there are 10 less pills a day that I take.
Thank you, Steven Stollenwerk and Hitch Fit, for providing a safe and uplifting place to transform my life.
