“Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right but you weren’t getting the results you wanted? I think this can be common in a variety of areas of life – but especially with our health – we put on blinders, come up with excuses until we turnaround (or face yourself directly in the mirror – lol) and one day don’t like what we see. What worked before doesn’t work anymore or you have stopped being honest with yourself and are supposed to be happy with what you see, but you aren’t. But how did it happen? How did I get here? Is this as good as it gets?
This is where my mindset was when I started working out at Hitch Fit and Nancy Choquette. Growing up I considered myself an athlete – playing tennis, basketball and softball. Then after college I ran marathons. Until finally I worked myself into a right total hip replacement surgery 5 years ago. I could no longer run. No plyometrics. My tennis game wasn’t the same. I was broken. Around that time, I also stumbled into Celiacs disease. So I have to eat gluten free always – no flour, wheat, barley or rye. More brokenness. Throw in a dose of hypothyroidism (thyroid issue that impacts metabolism) and being 40 plus years old – these are NOT the kind of challenges the cool kids want to have nor do they aide in making getting fit a piece of cake. I was pretty sure I was doing the best I could and didn’t deserve any more then where I was fitness wise.
Enter Ms. Nancy and our first meeting. None of these “excuses” phased Nancy nor could I scare her away with my hip replacement story. She got that I loved to workout and then really saw that I LOVE to workout! While initially meeting with Nancy was from my standpoint a chance to workout more, she helped me realize I wasn’t being entirely honest about my diet. Shoot – I eat clean- I have too! I mean, I am GFREE! But even eating clean means portion control. Good fats are great but too many good fats can be fattening J I focused on the HitchFit diet and I added 2 additional workouts a week with Nancy. Just 30 minutes over my lunch hour with her, coupled with the diet, helped me to up my ante and start shedding weight and gaining more muscle.
I have two amazing kids and an awesome hubby. They support me in all I do but we are busy with sports, school and constantly on the go! I just turned 45 years old a week ago. I’ve scheduled my 2nd total hip replacement (left hip) in one week. I lift weights at least 4 times a week and take as many steps as possible every day – through pain, the tight scheduling and the limitations – always doing what I could do to keep my spirits, health, willpower and confidence up. None of this would have been manageable without Hitch Fit and Nancy’s ongoing encouragement. I learned to just keep moving!
It sometimes takes a village to help make a change and shut down our voices in our heads. We are all broken and busy in different ways but don’t let that be your excuse. I’m not where I want to be – but I’m better than yesterday because of the work done with Nancy. I’m more than ever motivated by the journey and being the best I can be.
