“Growing up, I was always pretty skinny and never really worried about what I ate. I played volleyball in college, where working out was a way of life. I am currently a physical education teacher, so staying active is a fun part of my job. The last couple years, however, I’ve noticed a steady incline in weight and that I couldn’t fit into my clothes I once wore. I became skinny fat and began to feel uncomfortable in my own skin. Even though my family and friends still told me I was skinny enough, I was still not happy with how I looked or felt.
In January 2018, I joined a HIIT workout studio. I worked out 6 days a week for 5 months, burning at least 500 calories in the intense hour-long class. Other than an improvement in my cardio, I was not seeing results I wanted. Sure, I wasn’t gaining any weight, but I wasn’t losing weight either. There’s nothing more frustrating than putting in the time, sweating your butt off, and not seeing results. It wasn’t until that moment that I admitted I needed help with my nutrition. When I was younger, adults would always tell me “enjoy eating whatever you want while you’re young, while you still have a fast metabolism”. Of course, I thought they were crazy and didn’t know what they were talking about. But now I understand. I can’t eat whatever I want and not worry about the consequences. No amount of running and working out can get me the results I want unless my diet changed. With my background and education in health and fitness, I was already knowledgeable about nutrition, counting macros, and what I should be eating vs. what to limit, but I needed someone to hold me accountable. I needed someone to tell me my macros, how many calories I need to burn in order to reach my goals, and to make sure I’m following it all. That’s when I found Hitch Fit!
From the initial meeting with Steven, I knew I was ready to jump all in. I was more determined than ever to accomplish my goal because I knew if I followed Steven’s plan, I wouldn’t fail, because if I fail, he fails and if I succeed, he succeeds. I felt like it was a team effort… and that’s exactly the type of program I wanted! Throughout my time with him, he was always there to answer my late-night sweet tooth craving questions and calmed my gaining weight on vacation nightmares. The process of meal planning, cardio at least 5 days a week, and lifting sessions were definitely not easy and some days exhausting, but he encouraged me every step of the way while keeping me focused on my goals. One of my favorite motivational quotes that helped me throughout the whole process was “discipline is just choosing between what you want now and what you want the most”. This quote replayed in my head when I chose to say no to certain foods when the temptation was high, or on those late nights when I had to drag myself to the gym to do cardio to burn more calories after a long day of work. But the end result was greater than what would have been temporary satisfaction. Thanks to Steven and Hitch Fit for the transformation!
