Kim’s Story and Hitch Fit Gym Review:

Why I joined Hitch Fit:
I was scrolling through Facebook one day and ran across a post about Hitch Fit made by my good friend, Tiffany. I was immediately intrigued. Tiffany and I have some history together regarding losing weight. 5 years ago I hired a personal trainer that one of my EMT friends had used. I did really well with her, and lost 34 pounds! Tiffany called me one day and asked me who my trainer was, and she wound up hiring her and losing a lot of weight too. Unfortunately though, we both wound up putting the weight we’d lost, and then some, back on. I learned how to lose weight with this trainer, and started running to burn calories. I even ran the Kansas City Marathon in October 2013, with an average pace per mile of 11 minutes and 58 seconds. What I didn’t learn though was how to maintain the weight loss. How to keep it off, and not fall back into old habits. After my marathon it became cold outside. I fell out of the habit of running because of the weather. I got really good at making excuses to not go outside because it was too cold. Life stressors happened and I turned to food for comfort. Scrolling through Facebook and seeing Tiffany’s post about Hitch Fit and all of the weight she’d lost using Micah was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I started reading the Success Stories at Hitch Fit and couldn’t stop. These were real people, maintaining busy lives, families, and careers. Right here in my town, and afar. If Tiffany could do it, so could I!
My biggest obstacles and how I overcame them:
I feel as though I was my own biggest obstacle. I could come up with a million reasons why I wanted to skip the gym and sleep in. I would kick myself though when I did. I felt better about myself the more times I went to the gym. I gained confidence in myself. I liked watching the scale go down. I liked how my clothes were starting to fit. I enjoyed Nancy and Diana always telling me to buy new, smaller clothes that fit. It reminded me of how far I’ve come, and where I never wanted to return. I did a good job following my meal plan for the most part, but anytime I did cheat on my meal plan, AKA a margarita and Mexican food, Nancy helped me get right back on track. She didn’t scold or lecture me. She just helped me stay focused and keep going in the right direction.
Don’t let physical limitations stop you:
I have a history of having a brain tumor and “the biggest brain bleed our hospital has ever seen.” Although I had a craniotomy in 2008 and had that all fixed, I still have some physical limitations in place. I’m unable to be upside down for any period of time. One day Nancy had me sliding all the way through Hitch Fit on furniture sliders on all fours. I got dizzy and had to stop. Nancy learned from there on out that I couldn’t do exercises that put me upside down for an extended period. She made it a priority to put my health and wellness at the forefront of my journey. Anytime an exercise was questionable to her, she would always ask if I would be okay doing it. She adapted the workouts to my physical needs. Trust me, she came up with plenty of different exercises! Just wait until she brings out her deck of cards!
What I learned going through Hitch Fit:
I’ve learned to balance my calories with my activity level. It’s okay to indulge in sweets or Mexican food at times, but not everyday. They are for special occasions. I’ve definitely learned that you cannot outtrain a bad diet! I always bring my meals and snacks to work. I know that if I don’t I’ll be susceptible to temptation of food that co-workers bring or to ordering out. I never looked at Hitch Fit as a diet. It is a new way of life. It’s about making good choices everyday, at almost every meal. But then go out and have a Margarita when the time is right!
Moving forward:
I told Nancy that she was the best, and the last, trainer that I’d ever have in my life! We’ve developed a lifelong friendship, not only for myself, but for my entire family. My daughter Allie and I run together all of the time. We are already signed up for the Liberty Half Marathon in March 2019. It will be our third half marathon to run together. Every now and then I get lucky and Kaitlin works out with me too. I plan on staying active with Hitch Fit online and cheering people on, because I know how rewarding and motivating others were that cheered me on! I’m thankful for giving Hitch Fit a chance, and have absolutely no regrets!
