Getting Fit for 40: A note from Coach Tara: “I remember my first conversation with Dawn about her goals and what she wanted to accomplish before her 40th birthday. Dawn had done a transformation 10 years ago with Hitch Fit and had even done a bikini competition. Just like so many others, life got in the way and she put herself last to care for her children, job, family, plus a knee injury that kept her from exercising. She wanted to get back to a healthier, stronger place but wanted to take it slow because of her injury.
Over the last 6 months, we worked on improving her range of motion and strength in her legs and was able to do exercises she had not been able to in years. A couple of months into our training program, she started leading group exercise in her home for her neighbors and friends. She also signed up to compete in a triathlon this August. Her process was gradual, the way she wanted it, and I couldn’t be more proud of her determination and want to help others along the way.
Dawn is going to continue to make herself a priority and has said that she may even do another bikini competition this next Spring at the age of 40! She is proof that it’s never too late to take back your health and strength regardless of what life has thrown at you.”

Dawn’s Story and Hitch Fit Gym Review:

“Ten years ago I trained with Hitch Fit and competed in a WBFF fitness competition. It was a long journey, but not near as long as the journey I just took before turning 40. The older you get the harder it gets to take your health back. In the last 10 years since competing I went through a divorce, got remarried and had another baby. All the things life throws at you can add up and so can the pounds.

In December I set a goal to lose 40 lbs before I turn 40. I reached out to Diana and told her what my goals were and the type of trainer I was looking for. Little did I know Diana would pair me up with the most motivating woman and trainer. The day came and I finally met Tara. Tara had her work cut out for her as I was coming off a knee injury which limited movements I could do. Tara made a plan that would not only get me stronger, but strengthen my knee as we went. I went from not being able to do a lunge or squat to adding the exercises into my weekly routine.

I would of loved to have lost all 40 lbs in 12 weeks, but I wanted to realistic and take my time. I work full time and have two young boys at home. In the 6 months that I’ve changed my lifestyle habits, I have lost over 30 lbs and 11.5% body fat. My 40th birthday is in December and I am on track to meet my goal!

I have learned to set priorities with not only workouts, but nutrition. For anyone looking to start this journey and take your life back I have a few tips. Include your family! You cannot do this alone. My boys love to workout with me….while frustrating at times, the boys would look forward to my workouts and remind me. I built my workouts into my day and the entire family supported me. I would love to say I have more energy, but I have kids so I am always tired.

Looking at the next 6 months I have set physical goals to help motivate me to stay on track. I have a triathlon August 8th I am training for and a ½ marathon I am doing in October. I won’t have Tara every week in my back pocket, so I find committing to a physical event keeps me moving and fighting to complete the small goals.

The next 10 years WILL look different for me. I will work every day to keep my health a priority and to love my body even with its flaws. You may see me back at Hitch Fit in the spring preparing for a show!”
